Hi folks. Here are some quick recommendations...

For Books, I just finished THE BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEAD by Kevin Brockmeir, and I loved it. Check out the new works of Tobias Buckell and John Scalzi also. You can link up to both of their web pages from the Borlag site under recommendations. I also suggest finding any books you can by William Browning Spencer. The man is a great author that more people should know about. Don't take my word for it. Check out his reviews on any book selling site. Once you pick up a William Browning Spencer book, you are hooked, and most likely a fan for life. Look for Spencer's ZOD WALLOP and all his other great novels at Amazon.com. Or look for his newest short story collection THE OCEAN AND ALL ITS DEVICES at Subterraneanpress.com.

For movies and DVDs, I loved LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN and am looking forward to many of the summer blockbusters. I just rewatched A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and enjoyed it even more the second time around. I also recommend MIRRORMASK, from Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean.

I also just ordered THE CALL OF CTHULHU and am very curious to check out this take on H.P. Lovecraft's orliginal. Apparently the filmakers decided to make it look like a 1920's era movie. Check out their website, Cthululive.org. I will let you know what I think of it next time.

Take care,
Jim
